Can anyone let me know where I can find a reputable supplier of balsa and ply pls? I havn`t really got time to trawl around the web and I`m not happy wiyh ebay, seems to be they only sell small packs of cheap balsa bundles and its a gamble what you get in them, also the 3 foot lengths are sold in packs of 12 at 1 size only.I`m looking for assorted thicknesses 3 or 4 inch wide and 1/32 1/16 and 1/8 ply. Ok , so I`m lazy but seriously I havn`t got time in the evenings and work in the day. I`ve already got SAMS models listed but price comparissons are always nice in these days of economic hardships in the payne household

Well the rest of us are quite busy too so you are not alone…

You could check out Westbourne Models **LINK**

          or

          Cornwall Model Boats **LINK**

Both of whom sell a good range of modelling timbers.

thanks colin, Its always nice to have sites/shops recommended by others its like reading a review. However, maybe I shouldn`t ask in the future judging by the sarcastic remark about my available time. I didn`t ask anyone to go "out of their way" to supply the information I required nor did I ask for an immediate response. I could have been a newcomer to the hobby and posted that very same question. I wonder what their response would have been? I thought the one of the aims of these forums was to advise, help each other, and to have fun. I apologise iff I put anyone out by asking this stupid waste of time question. It wont happen again sad

I recommend SLEC for plywood. Their prices are much lower than the average model shop, its available in lots of sheet sizes and thicknesses and very quick delivery. They also do balsa although I have not bought any from them.

Captnslog, That is a bit strong if you are reffering to Colins remark. Colin is the arbitrator and to my knowledge is not given to making sarcastic remarks. Colins reply did not have any other undertones as I read it, simply the names of two suppliers.

He may heve been a bit flippant as indicated by the multiple dots after the remark, as I am myself.. but this should not have been construed as sarcasm. We have had this before on the site, humour, and its interpretation, or lack of.

Sorry just had to reply. I will not post any more on this thread.

I think half the fun of having a hobby such as ours IS trawling around the web sites for info, products and goods for the model we are building. and have all had to do it in the past, to extend our own knowledge of the subject.

How will you find time for your hobby if you can't find time for that research that is so often needed to produce a model?

try the Hobbies, and Hobby's (two different magazines with similar titles) that can be picked up in Smiths and Menzies newsagent stores…….they do mail order and are quite cheep too…….and their magezines (Hobbies and Hobby's) are a great insigth as to what you can buy for your hobby.

As for your comments towards Colin…..think you need to chillax matey….all that work and little play is doing nothing for your stress levels.laugh

Sorry, didn't mean to come across as sarcastic although it may look that way in retrospect, just more than a bit busy myself yesterday.

Hope you get what you need.

I've had two deliveries of balsa from Gliders Direct quality very good and quick at reasonable prices.

It would be nice if you apologised to Colin, for your sharp retorts! Then we all can get back on an even keel so to speak and this little hiccup will be quickly forgotten

Colin would not intentionally offend anyone!

This has really annoyed me……………its my job to upset Colin and if he is going to be sarcastic at anyone then I'm first in line.

I have been trying for years to throw Colin off balance….he is just to polite and kind.

I don't like the idea of someone else getting in first so I'm going to sulk.

Thats the problem with the keyboard, you cant alter it once its sent unlike handwriting. And thanks to everyone for their suggestions will check them out.smiley

got my balsa and ply and tissue just thought I would let you all know. the balsa cabin did the trick.bargain prices, all wood received was marked up with the grades i asked for and of excellent quality. couldn`t fault the service, packaging, delivery time etc. and the 2 girls were very helpful indeed. It was the balsa cabin if anyone was interested. I consider this thread closed with the original enquire answered. many thanks all
