This may be a late post but I was wondering if you still have the plans for the SK-5?
I was a pilot for the US Army, Air Cushion Vehicle Unit (later changed to the 39th Cav.), 9th Infantry Division Vietnam 1969-1970 and have been lookng for a kit/set of plans.
I was piloting 902 on January 9,1970 with 23 of us onboard when we struck a 500 pound bomb left unexploded in the Plain of Reeds near the “Parrots Beak”. That is the Cambodian/Vietnam border line that looks like a parrots beak west of Siagon. I have footage taken with a Super 8 movie camera of the recovery effort on the next day. I have it on DVD now if anyone is interested. Not much to see but a very large hole and some charred wreckage. I also have several pictures of the unit.
I would like to possibly find an accurate kit or if not struggle with building from scratch. I am not very accomplished as a model builder but will give it a good try. There were some field modifications made which I could incorporate into the model.
This would mean a lot to me if I could get my old Craft back. I would like to have this for my units reunion in 2012.
                    Thanks in advance,
                    Phillip Steele

I am not aware of any SK5 kits around but plans are still available from the MyHobbyStore range:

                              Hi,

I have also just purchased an online subscription but cannot find the reprinted article from 2010 any where?????????

Without the scale of the original plans I am struggling to work out the size I need to increase to. Can't find any dims on line for the SK-5 only the PACV.

                              Best regards

                              Dave

                                  Hi Andy and Colin,

Thanks for the help. Without a scale in the article I have calculated as best I can from the odd info on the web. I believe the plans scale out at 1/16 as near as I can tell.

I'm going to get them enlarged based on this and see what they look like. I've also emailed the US Military transport Museum who have the only surviving Army SK-5. Will let you know if I hear anything and we can get a definitive answer on the scale.

                                  Best regards

                                        Hi Phil,

Thank you for the links, I have already emailed the museum to clarify the published dims.

The second link and article are excellent as it helps me get a feel for the craft and how it was used.

I stuck the 8 enlarged sheets of plans together last night and could have used it as a carpet for my living room. I think I am officially crazy but now I have the idea in my head………………….

If I manage to build a 1/6 scale working model I will post it, if I don't you may never hear from me again smiley

                                        Best regards

                                          Dave,
I appreciate your interest in building a large scale ACV. It always was in my head to build one also but time and my abilities prevent it. Just take your time and it should get done..
Let me know if you need anything. There were some modification we made to the craft in VN like removing the ducts going over the rudders. There was no benefit with them as they bled off to much air. We also put bars over the duct fan because a VN soldier fell in( we belive he was shot ) on a mission. What a friggin mess that was. It put the craft out of commission for several months getting parts. And we put a heavy screen on the side decks to prevent anyone slipping into the Propeller. I could send you some pictures to help you with the build.
                                          Keep the dream alive.
                                          Thanks,
                                          Phil

                                            Hi Phil,

I have had a response from The transportation museum and I am pretty sure I have the plans in the right ballpark now. The model scales out nearly 2m long!

If you have any pictures or details that would help with the build I would really appreciate seeing them. I will PM my email addy later.

Just came across this old thread. I also served on 902 after transferring from 2nd Battalion 39th Infantry. Anderson was the pilot then. If Steele checks back in send a message. I remain in touch with Cawley, we gave Steele a nom de guer of (Shrump). He knows why.
