Way, way back in the late 70’s/early 80’s there was an build article and a free plan for a fast electric boat named “Thimble” in Model Boats magazine, designed by Les Jones of Cygnets Model Boat Club.

I’m just starting to build “Thimble”, I have the plan but I’d like a copy of the build article if anyone can lay their hands on it, just to clear up a couple of points…bit of a long shot, I know.

All copy and postage costs will be reimbursed, of course….

      Thanks,

Funnily enough, I’ve just recommissioned (as in I fitted the electronic speed controller this evening – a major step up from the micro switch which I could afford last time) an ABS molded Thimble which I made in the early 80s and has been sitting around for nigh on 30 years waiting for me to have children to be old enough to appreciate it.  My brother and I both started the plywood/balsa model from the article mentioned above, but both were a bit heavy and I seem to remember someone brought out an ABS bare hull molding which wasn’t very much money and seemed to be a rather quicker route.

Very over-excited about trying it out again

Now that’s interesting Charles, I didn’t know that there was an abs version of Thimble made. I did buy a very similar hull to Thimble called a SCUD, but it was just too small, even smaller than Thimble, so I sold that one.

I’m building Thimble from styrene sheet at the moment, I’m not good with wood I’m afraid..plastic all the way for me.

Keep me up to date as to how you get on with your Thimble, please…

                        Good luck,

The Cygnets Model Boat Club is still up and running and have a web site, they may be able to help.

                          Len.
