I am looking for three 12v electric starters as used by the aero model builder to start their nitro engines.

If you have one that you want to get rid of then let me know.

        Hello Paul

Why do you want three starters?……………for your speedboat?………………….How about three of those cheap battery drills from B&Q…………about a tenner each?

          Hi Bob

The motors are for the speedboat as its quite large and will need some power to move it along but I can’t decide on a twin or triple fit out, I shall have to do some calculations on power to weight etc.

The cheap drills don’t have big enough motors, but its a great idea for picking up motors I did hear of a chap who bought a pallet load of cheap drills from B&Q a few years ago because they had been fitted with Mabuchi motors, he stripped the motors out for sale on ebay and then sold the rest of the parts back to the manufacturer…….clever eh.

Paul, whereas starter motors are undoubtably very powerfull, it is my belief that they are generally wound and built differently to provide grunt and dont like being motored for very long as there may be a cooling issue……unless expense is a factor (and what isnt nowadays) then a trio of Torpedo 800s may be better…these are built more open in  the casing department and amenable to cooling. MFA recomend a pair for their Fantome at 48" so I wouldnt see why a trio shouldnt power your slightly larger boat along…unless you build it jolly heavy??? Ashley

              Hi Ashley

I propose to water cool the motors via a 12 water pump but I don’t run my boats for very long in any single sailing, my usual max run is 2 minutes.
