Magazine dates? Why are they off?

Dear all,

I have been subscribed to your magazine for a year now (just renewed for another year) and it never ceases so amaze me that the dates on the cover are continuously off… End of june, Early july the August edition arrived, by the time we were close to august the September issue was delivered, and now (end of september) the November issue fell on the doormat. How come?!?

Maybe correct this with a special edition once without month indication, so after that we get the December issue late in November, as would be more logical?

I am really curious as to why the dates are so wildly off?

There are thirteen issues of MB in a calendar year, so this state of affairs happens every autumn when the publishers try to cram four issues into three months.
Never mind the cover dates; just appreciate the contents!

Hmm, I can't help to notice that it was already off at the beginning of my subscription and the offset has – in my opinion – been pretty consistently. But okay, I will wait and see what happens in the coming months.

At least we have the date on the cover! I have just been sorting out my magazine collection and noticed (remembered) that some issues around 1997 only had a Vol number and it seemed virtually impossible to find the month or year. Glad that was dropped!

It makes more sense if you sort of assume that Model Boats is published to a lunar schedule…

Certain magazines i used to have were simply marked Vol22 issue 5 (or whatever) and no dates. CAnt think why? but saves having an early or late delivery. Ashley

Another magazine I am subscribed to with 13 issues/year, counts the issues like "No 11/2013", works well for me too.

Sorry to kick this thread… but I noticed the announcement for the march number being "Will be in stores feb 7". Doesn't sound like it was solved after the winter special, does it?

I still think your sense of dates is a bit peculiar…

Still love the magazine, though!
