I've recently moved to modelling boats and in order to reduce my expenses a bit and having recently acquired an Android tablet I bought a digital subscription. Unfortunately the Android app is something of a pain to use (at least on my Nexus 7).

To read the text or see any detail it is neccessary to zoom in – I've no problem with that, it's to be expected on a small screen. The problem is that once zoomed in the amount of scrolling possible is limited. You can put a finger on the screen and drag it OK for a little way, but then it seems to hit a rubber wall – you can drag it a bit more but on releasing it bounces back. And if you try to hold it against the 'rubber' it shakes around. Typically this is when starting at the top of the page and scrolling down – as you do when reading.

Sometimes I can work round by zooming out then double tapping near the bottom of the page to zoom in where I need to see, but this often does not work and it's a total blitz on a good read to have to keep doing it. I've all but given up trying to use the tablet for this magazine and have to use the computer instead.

Is this issue known? If so is there any prospect of a fix?

I'm afraid I can't give you an off the cuff answer Michael.

I have referred your post to the MHS IT Support people, we will see if they can come up with anything.

Hi Michael, I thought it was just my pad acting oddly, but I’ve exactly the same problem. Hopefully.a fix will be found soon, the digital issues have been a godsend, I’ve far too many magazines on the shelf.
            Charlie.

Thanks for that Charlie. At least it's not just me, which is good – I think indecision.

I have now received the following response from MHS IT Support. Just be a bit patient and hopefully all will be resolved shortly.

                Colin

This is a known issue and we are in the process of fixing it, we are going through the new issues first of the magazine and working our way back.

Since the last post I've received the Dec 2012 and Jan 2013 issues and both are misbehaving in pretty much the same way. It doesn't actually seem quite as bad as before (though my Android version has changed from 4.1 to 4.2 since my last posts which may have something to do with it), but the basic problem of not being able to move freely around a zoomed page still exists. You do get the odd page which seems to work as one would expect – just not nearly enough of them.

Hi all, is there any news on a fix for this problem yet? I’ve just had a frustrating time trying to read a back issue. I can zoom the left hand page but not the right hand page.
The magazine is great on windows, but not on Android 4, and I’m not brave enough to get my wife of the pc!
                    Regards, charlie.

I've just been reading a large portion of the April 2013 issue on my tablet (Android 4.3 I think now) and it has so far been fine as regards scrolling in the zoom, with all parts, and a bit beyond in fact, reachable without having to do anything odd. I do have to wait for the page to finish loading the higher resolution image before it will move though (it first zooms with a somewhat fuzzy image), but that isn't a problem with a reasonably fast net connection.

                      / Mike
