That does seem dumb doesn’t it. I see the need for subscribers, but they arn’t the ones to need that content, just look in your back issues. Perhaps it would make more sense if the subscriber only articles were the best from many years ago, there’s plenty of those.

I wonder if it may be the first attempts at an electronic version of the magazine.

I like the idea of copies of articles in the magazine. Yes those from the past would be just as welcome as not all of us has library of past issues to peruse so as to find the info we need to help sort out a problem.

I believe that at one point there was an index of MB articles. Something like that posted on this site with a keyword search facility would prove invaluable. Is this a practical proposition?

Subscribing to the mag is one thing but when they offer a free gift with it is something else….they just dont like parting with them so far 6 weeks and no gift plenty of reasons why though.

About publishing plans online . . .

I was talking to my blue print service technician down at the graphics shop the other day about how to supply him drawings electronically or on CD so he could print up my model plans. I was very worried about the accurate scaling as well.

He said that if you preset the size of a tiff file (*.tif), at say 24” x 36”, it will print out from the vellum printer accurately and to size. Each time! Every time! I have to believe him; they do the drawings for many of the big engineering firms here in San Francisco.

To get a proper level of detail he recommended a pixel density of at least 200 pixels an inch or higher. (Me I would rather it be 300 pixels an inch, but then I’m a resolution nut . . . comes from shooting medium and large format cameras. 😉

I admit I blanched a bit when I first thought of the file sizes, involved (about 36 to 40 megs for a 24×36) but what the hey, music videos are usually far larger and most folks are upgrading to high-speed data lines. To keep your traffic levels down, you could set-up mirror sites for us folks overseas

The other method, blank CD’s are only a few cents each in bulk, so if some of our members are still using dial-up modems, give them the option of having the files burned to CD for a couple of pounds to cover labor and postage.

While you are at it, how about, in addition to the “printer friendly” buttons, give us PDF files of the articles as well so we can store them to the hard drive without having lots of paper littering up our homes and aggravating ‘She who be obeyed.” Besides, PDF files always look better than HTML anyway.

thanks for the input. I’ll forward your comments to the tech guys. Unfortunately, we’re not set up to offer a premium membership at this point, and subscription only content should allow us to offer extra content, whilst at the same time tempting people to subscribe to the magazine.

Unfortunately, we also have no mechanism to offer content on CD, or downloads at high resolution of large files. Maybe the tech guys can come up with something?

I, like shipmate60 also get the feeling that I am being treated as a second class reader as I am prevented from seeing the subscriber only section of the magazine. I do subscribe for the mag but do it through [email protected] . Why should I be penalized for obtaining your magazine on a regular basis.
