Post left up for information – see following post below.

        *****************************************************

as the owner of the Speedline boat, costing well over £1000.00p and my friend Mick French, the owner of the models by design Shannon, my good friend Dave Stavros Jones, who has been painting as a professional body sprayer both cars and motorcycles and of steel, aluminium and grp body, as well as fabric covered classic cars for a business for over 30 years, time serve, he offered to paint my and mick Frenches grp boats FREE OF CHARGE, even supplying the 2 pack paints, which actually gives grp an impregnable waterproof coat, even should the gelcoat be damaged.

I have the greatest respect and confidence in what Stavros is doing, and find your comments out of order on a site not even aware of my build thread never mind stavs painting thread.

if you feel the need to comment and show your prowess as to your obvious knowledge about painting a grp hull, please do so on the correct forum, under your own name, and maybe one will have more tolerance towards your comments than I have in doing so in a sneaky way, elsewhere.

that is all I have to say, other than I believe Dave Stavros Jones has the ability, experience and knowledge to speak on this subject and produce excellent finishes on our two Shannon lifeboats,, and I shall leave it to him, should you be brave enough to challenge him on RCMB Forum to answer your questions and doubts as to his credibility….…..but be aware, his bite is far worse than his bark. lol.

I must say though, that having a friend who worked in the paint shop of TVR MOTORS on Bristol avenue, Blackpool for many years in the 80/90's, I often had his "bin liners" of grits that he and his fellow sprayers used on the grp bodied cars, before they were sprayed. and the grit rounds that he gave me for my model boats for sanding purposes ranged from 60/120/180 to 240, before they were always dry sanded down with 400 /800 papers……and this was on new cars leaving the factory

the cars were also always prepared by sanding with gas powered sanders, NOT by hand as Dave is doing……………..I think that speaks for itself.

I have received a complaint from a member of the RCMB forum about the comments made in this thread concerning painting techniques.

As will have been apparent from my own earlier comments I did feel that such criticisms should have been made on that forum where they could have been properly answered without Neil having had to give an explanation on this one.

I have therefore removed the earlier posts on here but am leaving the link to enable any further discussions to take place on the RCMB forum and for members on here to follow them.
