Spent a great day at Jodrell Bank which is a fascinating place with lots of interactive experiments and plenty of expert guides to explain things.

What amazed me was the size of the main dish as it is huge.

The best part was meeting a guy who was an undergraduate on site during the moon landings, he told us about the role that Jodrell Bank played in the landings and then we went on to discuss planet X, the much theorised 10th planet (or 9th now Pluto has been relegated).

If you ever get the chance you must visit.

Paul, its on my to do list but I keep forgetting to go along.

I was reading an article (can't remember exactly which one at the moment) but it mentioned that one of the 15" gun turret turning mechanisms had been used for the base of Jodrell bank.

            Hi Phil

Jodrell Bank is only 20 minutes from my house and yet I have only been twice and one of these was with school in the early 1970s. It really is a fascinating place not only did Lovell build the telescope he also planted lots of specimen trees so one of his legacies is an arboretum.

I haven't heard about the gun turret mechanics but it makes sense.

When I was talking to the chap about the moon landings he told me about meeting Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin and how upset they were when accused of taking part in a fake landing, they both were very astounded at how the conspiracy theorists concocted such an elaborate web of intrigue.

                Hi Dave

Have you tried the Science Museum in Manchester? I spent many happy hours there when I should have been in lectures…….you should have heard the students complain. Planning to take my grandson this coming half term.

I am very much looking forward to Ellesmere and hoping to go on the Saturday, only ill health, high water or the tax man will keep me away.

                Paul
