And now for something completely different!
Our local supermarket suddenly stopped selling Oyster mushrooms that we quite liked. Not too keen on mail order dried Oysters, so got a mushroom box for £15 (That included postage).
Instructions said remove side panel from box, and make an X cut across it. Spray the outside of the X with water twice a day, and they would grow in ten days. Did this, and after ten days – nothing!
Pulled the flap open and sprayed the gunge inside directly with water twice a day. After about a week, two small "pimples" appeared on the surface. Within days, these had blossomed out into two bunches of healthy looking little Oyster mushrooms. At the rate they are growing, we will soon have a fine crop.
Just wondering what sort of a yield these boxes give, and will they be cost-effective?
The box is 15 cm (150mm) square, and 27 cm (270mm tall). Apart from anything else, it is quite entertaining to see them growing.
Any more stories of mushroom growing?
