I am very grateful to Bob, Paul, Ashley, Dave and all the other regular posters who are happy to give so much of their time in support of the hobby and to help people resolve their problems.

And thanks to all our members who contribute to making this such a pleasant and civilised place to talk model boating.

Congratulations to all of you, a Happy New Year and successful sailing whether your boats be built of wood, plastic, GRP or Hard… ((sorry!)

                  Hi Bob,

fame at last, I'm on Bob's list.

We'll be over again this year at Llandudno for some vintage sailing and are contemplating mixing it with Colwyn Bay Boat Club as they've kindly sent us an invite to their June Sunday event.

It's a nice quick trip for us, early boat to L'pool, 2 hour drive to boat pool. Stay in Llandudno for couple nights and home again on ferry Sunday evening. Car plus 4 and several boats, what could be better?

                    Hi Bob,

Happy New Year. Thanks for the award, I will collect the trophy and cash prize when I visit Etherow with Glasgow (upon successful conversion to electric). Will I need to book a couple of security guards and armoured van for to transport the cash prize to the bank?

We have got a new model shop in Manchester, Modelzone have re-opened in W.H. Smith, I am going into town on Friday and will have a look. As they are a plastics model shop, it will probably be ok for paints, brushes. etc.

                    Kim,

Do you receive Model Boats postings on Facebook? an American model yacht company called Victor Model Products was shared in a post. Victor have been posting historic model sailing photographs from the USA, which are worth a look at. They also manufacture some excellent model yachts and a couple of lovely scale sail kits.

                    Tony

Kimmo, I hope to meet you and other forum members at Llandudno and Colwyn Bay this year and have a nice chat.

Thank you, Tony……..I like your sense of humour!……..Cash prize indeed

Bob. You shouldn't have tendered such a massive prize for our nominations!

Novelty builds…well, that's one way to describe them, exciting , certainly..and there are lots more to come!

Everyone deserves a prize, and as Colin says it is a very pleasant and civilised site, especially compared to some others.

I shall look forward to dispensing wisdom and utter rubbish (in equal amounts) for 2014.

But thank you, its always nice to be appreciated.

                          Ashley

I look forward to seeing some of this wisdom that you are promising…….

I've been looking back through your 2013 postings and the ratio seems to be 99 / 1

As Ashley said, everyone deserves a prize, but people like Bob, Paul T., Colin, and Ashley himself deserve extra special mention because of their continuing input into the forum. Without them the forum would be a much poorer place.

A Happy New Year to all from down under.

                                        Bob,

Thanks very much for the nomination of myself and Shemarah in the scratch built section. I am sure there must be lots of other people more deserving of the award but I will accept it graciously anyway.

Unfortunately Shemarah is not finished yet and progress over the last few months has been very slow for a number of reasons. Back in September I was asked if I wanted to return to work on another 6 month contract over this winter, which I decided to accept. That prompted a sudden spate of decorating and gardening jobs which my wife wanted completing before I went back to work.

Our daughter left home to go to university at the end of September which has resulted in a number of trips from home down to Lincoln to ferry her and her stuff around and allow her to to have an occasional dog fix with our two or our current trainee hearing dog.

Our son has become a father and moved house hence we are now grandparents and have had numerous trips between home, Newcastle and Harrogate ferrying stuff around and visiting the offspring.

I am now back at work, two months into my contract and being more of an early bird than a night owl, its less easy to find the time for modelling after work than it would be if I was at home. Going into the workshop at 5 in the morning when its still pitch black outside is not very attractive even to me.

I have done a bit of boat building including some repairs/mods to my Mountfleet 'Osprey' and some work on Elizabeth's latest project Ariel (see the associated posting in the scratch build section for a comment on the plans) Finally as should be revealed in the next edition of Model Boats we have built a family project which makes some of Ashley's designs look quite mundane. All will be revealed shortly, although Ashley already knows about it.

Bread and butter comes before model boat building

We have to get our priorities right!

When we have a break during modelling, it`s very hard getting back into the swing of things

I selected your build due to the accurate detail and research you went into and quality of construction

I can see you now have your hands full at the moment

I think you may have been outed in the "what's next month" section of the mag in any event.

Andy "crocodile Dundee" at our pond is contemplating several animal items. we would like to see a hippo head, that would be good, or perhaps a giant Anaconda..
