I am currently building in 1/16 scale, a narrowboat tug i.e. a conventional 70ft narrowboat shortened to 40ft for use on the maintenance fleet. I am thinking of installing a small smoke generator to simulate smoke from the cabin stove. I was looking at the system supplied by Hunter Systems but have now noted that Graupner do a small unit (Pt. No. 2324). Has anyone any recommendations regarding these two units? Also can anyone define the physical dimensions of the Graupner unit?

Scroll down to Small Smoke Generators then click on More Info button. This is the Seuthe 6v unit which is identical to the Graupner 2324 unit (although no longer available from ACTion/Component-Shop). It produces actual puffs as opposed to a steady stream of smoke and looks very realistic in the small Puffer kitted by Model Slipway. There is also a 12v version. If you want one of these then try Model Masters of Clevedon, who sell them for model locomotives. The Hunter Systems unit is physically much larger but may be more suitable for the size of model you are making i.e. approx 30" long.

Hi another place to look **LINK** most of these are small, but for your use I wouldn't envisage you wanting to generate 'smoke screens'

            cheers Tom

Many thanks for your prompt responses. I have looked at the web-sites identified and will also have a closer look at the Hunter Systems unit when I visit the Warwick/Leamington exhibition on 9 November.

Enjoyed your article in the Winter 2013 edition of Model Boats. Very informative and straight to the point.

There is some doubt as to whether or not Hunter Systems will be attending any future model shows due to Graham's poor health – although their normal mail-order business continues as usual. If I were you I'd give them a ring or E-Mail them.
Thanks for the kind words ref the article. Paul Freshney has already twisted my arm to write a follow-up for the next Winter Special!
