      Recently there has been an alarming increase in the number of things that I know absolutely nothing about.

            Matched in number only by those about which I care little or nothing.
            What started this off, Paul?

              The latest blockbuster to amaze me is……3D printing!

              Surely 3D printing entails 3D machining?………eh?

                I'm in a ruminative mood today.

                  I find I cant remember the things I know nothing about.

                  3d printing apparently needs to machining and is megga precise. It can print for instance, a ping pong ball , WITH A SEPERATE PEA INSIDE. all in one go. The price of "home" 3d printers is tumbling and I believe it may be possible to purchase one for less that 4 figures now.

                  No more grumbling about being unable to get odd size fittings eh? just cad them up and print!

                  Ashley. currently attempting to wire up a power dist board and twin esc board from a well known supplier…feeling that the most difficult bit will be cutting out all the holes for wire entry/exit and cooling fins in the little box.

                      Dave. Thanks for that. Noted.

                      i did think of using masking tape, or I might just have hacked it about a bit with the dremel.

                      I have fastened the power distribution board to a small plwood square via 5mm spacers to protect the soldering.

                        Dremels are too fast for ABS – they can melt the stuff very easily. Hand tools are best. Your method of mounting the P92 is exactly what was planned when it was designed.

                            I have the same problem with grandchildren and great grandchildren. We are to "entertain" the whole clutch (9) plus their various toys/"transport systems"/changing and feeding apparatus/parents this weekend. The drive will look like a used car lot while the house will resemble an explotion in Mothercare or Early Learning Centre. There will be only one topic of conversation (babies), to which I will be able to add precisely nothing.
                            Looks like me and Jack Daniels are going to enjoy watching the rugby on the laptop in the workshop. As Rod Stewart once said, think of me and try not to laugh.

                                        Paul, I have just seen that you are a youngster!!! (but only by a bit) (`58)

                                        Dave. I have forgotten now what we used to do without children about. We used to do…something… at christmas.. and I remember the first christmas when my brothers first child was…10 months…. old I think, ..and christmas day seemed to revolve around "it" and then "them"and then we added to the "its". What folly eh?? BUT NOT REALLY.

                                        Paul. Old joke

                                        A white horse goes into a bar, and the barman says "Cor mate, we have a drink named after you!!". "what." says the horse…. "Eric???"

                                        Sorry. I just told that one this afternoon at a concert with the South London Concert band, at a nice village hall in Brockham, Surrey. Travelled down on my 1957 Ariel Red Hunter.. got soaked, however no trouble starting afterwards!!

                                        Ashley,

                                            Very nice room with plenty of sockets and level benches but with all of those lights and heaters it can't be classified as a workshop……no draughts, no dust, no heaps of half completed projects….and worst of all no kettle.

                                            Will it always be this tidy?

                                            What is in the other half of the structure?

                                            Paul

                                            ps get rid of the clock, you are retired and don't need it any more.

                                              Who needs a kettle? I have a Liz!
                                              I can't work amidst mess. There's no point in having 10M of worktops if you're then going to restrict your workspace to one square foot;
                                              The other half of the structure is a double garage to which the new shop is an extension;
                                              The clock is just a habit really, but it is useful when you're waiting for glue or paint to dry (or relatives to clear off…..);
                                              I challenge anyone to see dust at this resolution (It's there alright); and
                                              I only ever make one model at a time.

                                              Colin
