Here is an exclusive undercover photo of Dave Ms new workshop and model test pool

      imagesca1n0h2n.jpg

You can see how it snugly fits in with the house and veranda and although you cant see from the photo our reporter commented that the new fully fitted bar was already showing signs of significant use.

We wait with bated breath to see the interior shots of the worlds most hi tech model workshop.

How the h*** did you get these shots? The security staff at the gatehouse had been told to watch out for short, portly balding individuals with long lenses. Heads will roll.
I had to make the test tank look like a swimming pool in order to get the EU grant, while the bar is licenced and open to the public between 20.00 and 20.05 every fifth Wednesday of the month.
I'm now awaiting installation of the low-bake paint oven, flow-soldering machine, electrostatic spray painting booth, halon-gas fire extinguishing system and draft Jack Daniels pump.
The LED lighting system is causing some grief – several Chinese suppliers have already been "sanctioned" for failing to deliver on time. Further "samples" have been requested elsewhere. They had better arrive…..
You will be able to see photographs of the finished result in the August 2014 edition of 'Heyup!' magazine (unless 'OK' offer me more).

Yet another exclusive photo of Dave M's workshop has been obtained by our portly and not so balding reporter.

This interior shot was taken at great personal risk as last orders had been called and Mr M's sprawling executive estate is 2 miles from the pub. (hence the camera shake)

            imagescaxmb7yn.jpg

The problem of the Chinese lights have been resolved by the fitting of good old BRITISH strip lights but as yet there is no sign of any model building.

Meanwhile the faceless men of Mr M's security staff have made no comment over this latest breach of security.

gosh that Dave M is sooooo modest.

I should be sooooo dissapointed if I did not see an (at least) 10 foot Severn or something on one of those benches next year!

Ashley (can barely afford a strip light, let alone…)

We all have high hopes from the master modeller now that he has retired from high end electronics and these tantalising glimpses of his wonderful new workshop are only increasing our expectations.

I would think that a 10ft Severn is easily possible but I am looking forward to the 8ft Huntsman, after all Mr M did design the original model of this boat so it is only to be expected that he will build a truly exceptional version.

I can see it in my minds eye….a truly exceptional and beautiful creation packed with brushless motors and electronic wizardry….the sort of model that we can only dream of being able to build.

Paul, you are as usual, so right; at least 8 foot, this is what we expect from such an exceptional designer and electronics expert.

I for one will be just so thrilled to see this on you-tube, and admire the authentic electronic sounds of a mighty V-8 (or whatever) as the boat powers its way across the solent, a fitting environment to such a monument to British model boat building.

My idol for a functional model workshop is Mike Mayhew of Waverley Models. Anyone who has visited the real Master Modeller in his lair in Clevedon will know just how much you can cram into such a tiny space. It is amazing. Quite how he manages to make anything in there is beyond me, but his use of the available space remains an example to us all. He'd have a fit if he knew how much space I was wasting!
At the other extreme there's Dave Buckingham, who lives in the same part of the country as Mike and who actually has a whole bungalow in his garden which serves as his workshop and railway layout. I gather he even has coach tours visiting it from time to time.
The first project for my play-pen is a new demo box for the ACTion sound units (o yes – I'm still doing some shows with CompShop this year). This is under way already. It will be followed by a review kit for a forthcoming Model Boats Special. After that I have a Graupner Parat kit with all the trimmings to get stuck into. Liz has ordered a 1:1 scale Huntsman 31 but the workshop is only about 40% as big as would be needed, and I can't find any strimmer engines big enough……….. At least that's my excuse – quite how long it will hold up is anyone's guess.

Keep taking the mick, chaps – it's all going into my Little Black Book……………

Not taking the mick…just a little jealous of your new playroom (and I got bored writing up a spec sheet)

I like the idea of Liz's 1:1 kit and know of a perfect pair of V8s that would fit in just nicely and you don't need the workshop to build it…. just use one of your stable blocks!

Are the brackets so special or could you knock them up in the new workshop?

Given you interest in meteorology will you be having a little weather station on the roof of the workshop or will you stick with a piece of seaweed out in the garden. Do you know that if you cant get seaweed you can still check for rain with lettuce. Just hang the lettuce in the garden and if its wet when you check then you will know that its raining.

Having already paid for the damn things – all 32 of them – I'm blowed if I'm going to start a production line of my own. They are quite tricky little blighters and with the other stuff I have to do would probably take me over a fortnight to finish anyway. The Manchester Show is fast approaching (will you be there?) and a certain Mail-Order retailer is nearly out of stock of Noisy Things again…………….Fire up the Weller!

I have no interest in meteorology at all but Liz has a piece of string hanging up outside the kitchen window. If the string is wet she knows it's raining. If it's dry then it's not raining. If she can see it then it's probably sunny. If she can't then it's either foggy or some bird has nicked it for nesting material……

Easy to miss. Once you know where the turn-in for the yard is it's easy – just turn left through the first door (between the old tin bath and the rusty bike frame), pull your elbows in and duck!

I'll be there 29th May as it's the 5th Wednesday of May – so can I order 8 pints bitter on the bar for when you open

second, we've got an LED light comany over here who get the stuff from China, I'm just ordering their strip light replacement tubes, just two to see if they're better ( 2 x 24.5W 1500 tubes).

Nice to here you will still be offering your services to the boating fraternity, I'm just about to make use of the triple engine set-up posted on your site for a new project, thank you.

                                            All the best, Kimosubby

All done except the lights, which are STILL awaiting their mounting brackets. It will be six months next Tuesday since the original order was placed, and five weeks since the supplier was notified of the shortage.

Dave. Fabulous workshop, not perhaps as palacial as Paul would have us belive but fantastic nonetheless.

I like the intercom so you can call for cups of tea on demand….and is that… no, it cant be… a HEATER in the room ??

You will be building boats in the lap of luxury!! I could only dream of such a place.

The "intercom" is actually a wireless extension of the front doorbell. Liz has another chime button in the kitchen which she presses when lunch is ready and the device in the workshop flashes to tell me which of the two buttons has been pushed – honest!! Just call me Pavlov……..
There are two 120W tubular heaters on thermostats to keep the temperature above 10 degrees overnight, and my old 2.5KW fan heater to get the place up to speed quickly. I have a cordless phone extension in there (so I can ignore everyone much easier) and a thumping great big extractor fan for those awkward aromas e.g. cellulose, polyester resin, Marstons Pedigree, vindaloo.
I've waited fifty years for my own proper brick-built workshop and much of the proceeds from selling ACTion has been invested in it. The silly sign was a Christmas present from my dear daft step-daughter. She also bought me one of those "Keep calm and……" signs, but I daren't post a photo of that anywhere on the Internet!
