Why is it that W.H.Smiths in Cardiff put my fave magazine on the bottom shelf at the very back and the railway magazines on top in full display . Anyonewho has a bad back will find this very inconvieient . Why cant Smiths put them in a better position , i mean fair play there is enough model railway magazines on the market and only 2 model boat mags . PLEASE Mr Editor can you not get them to do something about this , it kills my back bending down to get my fave publication !!!!!

      Man thanks

      Andy from Cardiff

          Andy,

I think that what it amounts to is that we, in the UK, are not a seafaring nation anymorefrown

If you look in the "transport" sections of any library or major bookstore in the UK, you will find it dominated by cars, buses, trucks, railway trains & airplanes. The only things maritime that you "may" see are the obllgatory Titanic, Cutty Sark, Victory and Bounty, and even these are mostly referred to as "boats!"

I have just accepted it as a fact and even my interest is now on a steep decline. It is unlikely that the situation will ever improve, so it is probably best to just accept it and become "self contained" in your interests!

WH Smith place the magazines according to how much the publishers pay them! Big budget magazines have deeper pockets.

Why not move them into a more prominent position on the bookshelves! Only takes a few seconds, and even if they see you doing it, the worst they can do is shift them back down again after you have gone!!!wink 2 , but they probably wouldn't notice anyway!

I have a similar problem but it's my knees that play up. My woodworking and canal boating mags are usually low down and right at the back. Getting down is not too bad it's the getting back up!!
