Paul
If anyone refuses to respond to a polite request to go away – especially if you've explained that you are unwell – then there's no reason to feel bad about putting him in his place. I'm sure his faith will be restored by whatever he calls God very quickly.
The next problem might be that, like the old "Navigators" at University, he'll divine that your lack of faith (i.e. his faith) places you in peril of eternal damnation and the b*gger will come back to try and save your soul with his shoddy saleman's pitch.
Unlike you I can't be doing with door-to-door religion or philosophical argument. I frequently pretend I'm either Jewish or gay when I answer to door to these types – it seems that they don't regard either as fitting the membership criteria for their church. I also rolled a spliff in front of two of them – they didn't hang around waiting for me to light up! (This was 40+ years ago, officer, and I swear I hid the rest of the gear and I've since forgotten where it was.)
