I recently bought a model tug boat from Howes in oxford , a very reputable company and a totly innocent party in this matter, well i gave it to my brother as a birtday present but there were a few things wrong with it so i called Howes who told me to pop it in the post and send it backand they willrefund the postage so off to the post office i trot and £8.30 lighter off it goes in the post .BUT when i called Howes they had not recived this package so someone some where has a Southampton Tug boat that i paid nearly £40.00 for again i must stress Howes are an innocent party in this matter and hey are as much a victim as i am .Now the great paper chase begins but i think i’m up agaist a brick wall .Has anyone else had this problem with the post office or is it just me ???

This happened to my wife recently. She bought items from a reputable company in Norwich, which were never delivered. The company sent them by Royal Mails ‘Track and Trace’ which shows them as not delivered and returned to the supplier. The supplier has never received them back.

Fortunately she paid by credit card and the credit card company are now investigating.

My local model shop ordered in 6 IC cars prior for the Christmas rush

2 arrived in the box marked 2 of 2

when he went to enquire where the other box was, he was told that was all what was sent but he had checked with the company he had pruchased them for and there was definately 2 boxes one with 4 cars and the other with 2 cars.

so he went away from the desk and walk into the open vehicle door into the depot

and had a sniff about in the corner was the other box lying ripped open containing 3 of the cars so he went back to the desk and got the depot manager and took him to

the box showed him the box marked for the shop but in the few minutes he was away

the box now contained 2 cars. The depot manager wasn’t interested and said that it must of been another party responsible

the police have now pressed charges

I have had an envelope containing creit cards stolen while in the mail and another one which had been opened and crudely re sealed.

The parcel containing the prop shaft assmblies for my Slo Mo Shun got lost in the post, last January, luckily, the supplier……PMB Model Boats…..replaced them the next day

I took parcel force to court about 4 years ago with what i thought was a cast iron case when they absolutely smashed a model in transit.

I sued them for a cost of professional rebuild on a Marie Felling tug………….because the case was clearly marked with model ship in transit, this way up, fragile, etc all over the strong wooden carrying case, and a model reasonably secure inside.

I LOST THE CASE……the judge said, and I quote “what can you expect from a second or even 3rd rate carrier…if you’d have wanted it to get anywhere safely you should have used anyone other than PARCEL FORCE”………..CASE DISMISSED.

SADLY,Andy, and I’m sorry to say this,personally i don’t think, with that sort of mentality from the judicial sector, you have a snowball’s chance in hell of getting anywhere.

Neil you were right all my snowballs melted away !!!!!!!!!! The most generous post office gave me compensation to the tune of £20.00 less than 1/2 what i paid .Next time it’s by private corier no matter the cost . I am so annoyed with the post office/royal mail i have vowed never,ever to use their buissness for parcels again as i now do not know if they will get there or not . Some one some where has stolen this parcel and lord knows how many others as well .

Maximum compo is £39, so tell them that £20 is insufficient. They use their bureaucratic machinery to dull your enthusiasm and hope you’ll take the lowest offer. If you can show that you paid £40 plus P&P for it then £20 is actually a breach of the contract you placed with them when you sent it.

We’ve challenged the first offer from them on both of the occasions we have had claimed for losses, and both times they came back with a better one.

Go for it, my man!

my sister recently sent me 1 package about the size of 4 pouches of tobacco.7 days later I still hadn`t received it.Off she trotted to the post office kicked up an almighty fuss and lo and behold they found it between 2 cabinets.someone must have knocked it off.BUT she saw it going straight into a mail sack.maybe it was airmail because it transported itself nearly 4 feet onto a cabinet all by itself.The p/o is full of coruption.

This sort of thing has stopped me from selling models abroad.   EEC law states that the seller is 100% responsible for any damage or loss incurred.     Transit insurance is ridiculous and a lot of them (couriers) say they don’t pay out on the first £200 of damage anyway!

You can’t win.      If it is damaged, they will say “insufficiently packed, or it wouldn’t have got damaged!”

Another “get out” statement is, “The recipient had got rid of the packaging, so we couldn’t check!”

At the same time, the EEC DO NOT force any rules on couriers.   If it was made law that if you pay a courier to deliver something, they are legally bound to make good any loss or damage, maybe they would look after things better!

I would NEVER entrust anything delicate to Royal Mail.     For my UK deliveries, I have used UPS for several years and they have never lost or damaged anything so far.    Quite reasonably priced as well!
