To continue the discussion about IC power I wonder just how many waters allow IC powered boats and, where bans are present how many such prohibitions are actually enforceable?

I ask this question after finding out that, contrary to the resident clubs insistence, the owners of a certain lake that TFC uses not only allow IC power they wish to actively encourage all types of model boating.

            Fleetwood!
there was a lovely old aerokits ASR crash tender running yesterday morning for about 90 minutes before he went home with a big grin on his face, and it was amazing to see how many were watching his boat rather than 3 scale coasters further up the lake.
It was lovely to watch AND listen too.
What boating is all about….having fun and tollerance for all and each other.
            Long may it last.

I remember attending the  big  race meetings at Fleetwood in the early 70s . By contrast to todays events. meetings like Fleetwood,  Crooks Vally dam in Sheffield ,Liverpool Walton hall park  and many other venues up and down the country  once attracted thousands of people. For one national race meeting at Crooks Valley you could not get near the edge of the lake. Equally events { although all electric]   such as the Redhouse international series of meetings in the 70s at Birmingham  attracted model boaters from all over the world .  Even at Birkenhead  IC race days were a big family thing. With huge entries and lot of spectators . I believe Ic boating is still permitted at   Birkenhead but I’m not so sure about organized  power boat racing .

IC powered boats have a magic all of their own…..the sound and the smell along with the speed make them unique and always draw a crowd.

Usually IC boats run at quite a speed and I think it may be this factor and the posible danger to wild life which works against them when considered by local authorities.
The difficulty of obtaining permission to use a paticular water these days may be leading clubs to prohibit IC boats as a ‘sweetener’ when submitting their application.

Writing this from the sidelines at the moment as I am just getting back into model boats after 55+ years with aircraft.

I would think that the main argument against using IC power is the probability of oil polution, I have never seen a “clean” model IC engine.

IC boats are not allowed in our area simply because of their noise.
