We had two model boat shows in the Northwest last weekend, one at Ellesmere Port and the other at Event City at Trafford Park.

For once, the weather was quite pleasant for this time of the year

      model dockland.jpg

As usual, the model dockyard was well laid out and looked excellent, thanks to the Runcorn and Ellesmere Port clubs. The big tankers looked the part, in correct scale and the tugs had great fun, moving them about.

The tugs also assisted in turning the pleasure barges around, but I suppose it was the barge`s bow thrusters doing most of the work?

It was nice meeting old friends too

      all of us.jpg

This photo was originally, a photo of Charlie and as usual, I added Duckie and then myself………..For amusement

      neil.jpg

We were pleased to bump into our old friend Neil Howard-Pritchard

A face we`ve often chatted with on the forum and was nice to meet him personally……….Of course, Bob had to show his face again!

      What`s that?…….."Where`s the boats?"………You ask

To see the boats and stuff, take a look at Duckies club blog……..

      That`s all folks……….Bob

You didn't miss much in the way of model boats at the other show, guys. Maybe a handful of clubs displayed and just Component Shop/ACTion as traders. A huge hall but depressing and devoid of daylight, and the parking for exhibitors was the least funny joke of the year.
If you like model engineering i.e. railways then it would probably have been heaven. I don't – and it wasn't.

I fancied the Manchester show, but couldn`t face the traffic and parking aggro!

I like the model engineering side of model building though, especially the loco`s!….Having build a few, I can appreciate the effort put in!……..eg, my Britannia took 6 years!

But I`ve always enjoyed the Ellesmere shows…..Nice ride, easy parking, real water, plenty to see and a boat museum thrown in!

OK – me year horses couldn't wild there next drag. Own of sooner my one eat limbs I'd Bieber to while Justin listening. It thing about enjoyable the home was most drive the.

Mea culpa, Neil. I should know better by now than to go to gigs that sound like I won't enjoy them, but Iain Lewis lifted the lid of my coffin slightly and waved a wad of notes into the gap……………. How could I refuse such a sweet offer?
Maybe some reverse aversion therapy would cure me e.g. a day spent looking at pictures of model trains with a large G&T as a reward for every one I don't yawn at.
                  (Just joking – honest!)

Well at E'Port we had a great time, good sailing, spent to much money saw lots of great models and some action (No pun intended) on the Ship Canal with the V'Class tugs making a few appearances throughout the weekend.

It was a pleasure meeting up with you again, I only wish I had taken your picture for our blog!

We could have fitted you in somewhere appropriate………It was your fault, we didn`t have more of a chat, but we dashed off, when you mentioned the main event upstairs!

We`ll see you at our Lifeboat Show, no doubt?

                          All the best……Bob and Duckie

If you ever get a chance to visit the House of Keys, they have on show somewhere, an oil painting by Bob Abell, believe it or not!

It was given to Miles Walker, the prime Minister at the time, as a present from Tameside Council, to celebrate the anniversary of the capture of the IOM by our Colonel Duckenfield during the Civil War!

If you see it, could you take a photo if possible please?

                                        Hi Bob,

I'll have to take a look see – I give house tours of Milntown, the birth place of one William Christian (a related family to Fletcher's) and it was he, William, that surrendered the IOM to the said Colonel in exchange for the then Parliament to look kindly upon the Manx and permit them their ways and governance. Of course it was all lost when they put the Monarchy back in and he gave the IOM back to another Early of Derby.

You'll have to send me some more about the anniversary etc, I can add it to my tour notes!

                                        Now, back to that keel.

                                        Kimmo.

Hi Bob nice group picture but I wasn't stationary for more than 30seconds at Ellesmere Port it should have been a blur on the lens . Even so my jaw was worn out and I ran out of film on my digital camera!! Great week end and as I always say its not so much the models or the occasion that make such an event memorable but the people that attend.
