The Promenade Park model boating lake at Maldon has for the last few years been blighted with an excessive growth of weed that has tested the ingenuities of the local Park Rangers to try and keep it clear.

This year, however, the problem has become much worse. Several attempts have been made to clear it giving us a couple of days sailing before it clogged up again.

We understand that the Maldon District Council have now decided to abandon the boating lake to the weed and the “crabbers” and no further action will be taken to attempt any clearance this year.

Most local users will be aware of the problem but I am writing this to alert any would-be visitors who may travel many miles to Maldon hoping to sail their boats and be very disappointed on arrival.

      Robin Reynolds,
      Chelmsford.

colin, could you pass this on to Robin Reynolds, as i have posted similar on a number of forums..
Fleetwood had the same problem for a number of years with many attempts to clear it without success.

Then, Wyre Borough Council who are responsible for the upkeep of the lake chanced upon a remody that others had used.
They implanted into the lake bed two sonic impulse transponders, [ one at each end of the lake], and this worked with IMMEDIATE effect, clearing the weed within about 10 days, never to return again.

we all took the preverbial at their initial response to placing these in the lake, but it were us that were left with egg on our face.
