          Hi Ian,

You can have a look at 2010 events in the box on the left hand of this page. (a bit further down!)

Liverpool to Portsmouth covers around half of the UK so I think you’d need to be a bit more specific regarding locations of model shops.!

                Hi Ian,

There’s lots to see in Portsmouth, three days worth at least! The main attraction is the Historic Dockyard http://www.historicdockyard.co.uk/ HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, Monitor M23 and much more. The Mary Rose herself is not viewable at the moment although her museum is open and well worth visiting to see all the items recovered from the wreck.

The RN Museum is very good too although the selection of models on display will depend on whatever themed exhibition is taking place. If the weather is good then the harbour tour by boat is a must.

On the other side of the harbour (by ferry) is the RN Submarine Museum at Gosport  http://www.rnsubmus.co.uk/ with two full size subs and lots of models and other interesting stuff on show.

There are various othe maritime related attractions in the area, some of which can be found here: http://www.welcometoportsmouth.co.uk/portsmouth%20attractions.html

                Hope this is of interest.

                    Ian,

Am currently studying in Liverpool – you will have a fantastic time! Best bet is to head to the docks and there is a maritime museum there.

Also a rather good pub – the baltic fleet, with a lot of rather good ales!

Birkenhead is a short taxi ride (just to warn you it goes through the tunnel), and there is a submarine museum

Have never been myself, but have heard its a cracking day out!

Hope you have a great time

                    Dave

                      Hi Ian,

Midway between Bovington & Portsmouth is a brilliant model shop specialising in model boats. Good stock levels plus friendly and knowledgeable staff. No connection just a satisfied customer.

Quite agree about Westbourne Models, If you are anywhere in the area it is most definitely worth a visit – you could easily spend an hour just browsing. I did an article on the shop for the magazine a little while back.

If you are still here at the end of August then the Model Boat Convention (1) is well worth a visit and close by is the trade and model show organised by A Model World (2). Both are worth a visit and there is a free bus between the two provided by A Model World, although they are not linked commercially.
