      Hello all,

Pardon my ignorance but I'm not really a boat enthusiast, I do however have a model boat with a steam engine inside I need to sell. I don't know who made this engine or how much it could be worth. the engine has a small piece of metal with the words "rand it Asia Singapore" written on it.

If anyone knows who the manufacturer is and how much it's worth it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Josh,I`m sorry I cant tell you much about your boiler and Engine or the true value of it either, Looking at the fuel system it looks like some sort of spirit burner, The boiler looks to be possibly home made but I`m not too sure. Without a close inspection with no Probable current Boiler Certificate and also without seeing the Engine running I would be prepared to say its current worth would be one hundred pounds.

Your plant is a Japanese "SAITO" steam plant: the engine is a T2DR with a matching boiler spirit fired.

              Josh,

We only permit sales on this forum by established contributors but I hope the information given above will help you to sell it via Ebay or one of the other internet auction sites where you should also get a better idea of what it might be worth.

If you Google 'Saito steam engines' a lot of information will come up to help you.

              Colin

I think there should be some sort of Health and Safety warning with an old second hand steam engine, such as this?

                They can be very dangerous

Bob is right, it will also be worth more if you can get it tested and issued with a boiler certificate. Otherwise if you do sell it then get the buyer to sign a disclaimer that it is sold as seen and should be tested before it is used.

It's a bit like selling an item of electrical equipment, if the buyer is electrocuted you could find yourself liable.

The Saito engines are not toys.

                  Colin
