Hi Guys, I have just received may plans package from Richard Chesney

for the J piper 1:24 scale barge.

So far I have cut a keel and thicknessed it to size. Likewise have erected the the stem and dead wood.

This evening I have glued in frames 2 3 4.

Cutting out the frames was tedious. Thank God I have a Dremel jig saw or I would still be cutting them out.

I am delighted with the way it is taking shape.

Just thought I would post this up as it may be of interest.

      Regards Nick Viner.

            Thanks for the reply Ray.

By the way, Richard Chesney's plans show a timber called bass. Living in Australia we do not know of this timber. Is it a local slang name of is there another type I can use?

            Regards, Nick.

Hi Nick, alternative names are linden or lime wood. I've seen it at SLES in the uk,

Bass is lime. Nice stuff. Fairly light but works like a hard wood which it probably is officially. Very little figure and grain, works beautifully.

                Not too expensive, either.

Hi. Nick, welcome to TSB building, I started mine, the 1/24th. Veronica, around 3 months ago, I started with the sails and mast to try and get my head around the rigging, I have just started to finish the hull, I will be able to post some more photos later this week.

Good luck with your build and I hope you enjoy it as much as I am.

                  Best wishes Eddie.

Thanks for your answers Gentlemen I now know what the tree is.

I have been out of the UK since 1972 and do not remember some of this stuff.

                      Hi Nick

IKEA wooden blinds are a good source of 3mm planks.

I used them on a fishing boat and they steam and bend very well.

Only cost me $5 au at the tip shop and I got a 100 pieces at 1100mm long.

                      I think they are bass/limewood !!!
