The first time I did this I used polyester resin and fibre glass from Halfords. This I found to be strong smelling and rather cumbersome. If I use epoxy is it much the same?

I have been searching sites on the computer and found Eze-coat, a single part solution that says it can be used for this purpose.

Is there any strong opinions for or against this product?

On first look it appears to look good.

I think you'll find ZPoxy is a preferred product for models. I have used it and like it. It is less odorous and sands well. Others could say more abour Eze-Cote.

I've used both. While Z-Poxy does result in a tougher finish I can't deny that Eze-Coat is easier to use. There's a video on You Tube showing how to use Eze-Coat with fibreglass cloth here **LINK** and an article on using both types here **LINK**

If you are not going into battle, then Eze-Kote should be ok. I would not compare it to Z-poxy, epoxy or polyester resin as these last three are proper hard jobs, the Eze-Kote is more like a stiffish acrylic varnish in comparison.,
