      Hi All,

      Still in hard water season here. My thread subject sizes up my question. Is there a graphic standard to determining the size of hull and pennant numbers and placement on RN ships? Eg: If there's ten feet between the boot topping and sheer line, then the letter and numbers shall be five feet high? Thanks in advance to those who help out.

          Hello Dave

          I have never come across such a system but knowing how pedantic the Royal Navy can be I would imagine that some kind of standard profile exists.

          Personally I would 'cut corners' and extract the information from individual ship photographs (if they exist)

          It might help us if we knew which specific ship (or type) that you are interested in.

            Hi Paul,

            The ship is a bit of mashup. I was given a 1/40 scale Dumas U.S.S. Crockett hull a few years ago. I have some plans for a Bahraini FPB I acquired that comes close to the hull size in 1/48. So, some tweaking and here I am. I'll probably have about 2" clear freeboard at the low point of the sheer line.

              Given the hull and plans that you have I would be looking at the Fairmile D class boats (ww2 vintage) for an idea where any RN information might be displayed.

                Hello Dave,

                This may come a little late, though I hope not. Following Paul´s advice about looking at Fairmile Ds, their hull numbers were 375mm high and 300mm wide, according to John Lambert´s book.

                I suppose it would be quite hard to paint them individually, so you may want to try Becc Flags. They make self adhesive lettering (they have Royal Navy pennant numbers) to different sizes. Just google them and you´ll get the link.
