For the D-day commemoration I have some 1:32 infantry figures that need painting in Royal Navy uniforms.

What is the best colour paint to use and are there any colour photos to copy the scheme from ?

As far as I know they were black! Merchant Navy & Royal Navy officers uniforms are known as "blues," but I have never seen any that were blue – they were all black. Same with the ratings! I think the square bit than hung down the ratings backs may have been blue, but not sure!

            Hi Trevor

During WW2 the Royal Navy had dark blue uniforms ( the colour changed to black in the 1960s) a good paint colour to use is Midnight Blue

Wonderful, will try to get the army to change services to man the Corvette and MTB.

              Thanks

The model soldier figure people argue over this..the right colour for a figure is what it looks best in and not neccessarily the technically right colour, if you see what I mean.

On D-day, there will be figures manning assorted landing craft of all hues so i wouldnt worry too much !!

The figures on my boats will be the colour of plastic they were moulded in, as they are toys and that willl be that.

I have a tin of Humrol blue that looks a little lighter than the pictures – I'll go with that.

I am hardly building a detailed scale model of a particular ship !
