Hello to all hope everyone had a good Xmas . Can anyone please help me my Question is I am building the Hull trawler Kingston Peridot What type of wood would you recommend for the deck and masts as this is my first attempt to build a model Trawler .I have Built model ships in the past the Plastic kits that you get in the box I have the plans but very little info on what materials needed any help please many thanks John

deck 1/16 ply masts out of dowle , it is large build best of luck ..Larry

I have the Kingston Peridot originally built by Bill Jefferson in 2008, which fell into disrepair. Much of the renovation has been done but my dad passed away and I need to finish it. It is a complex build and bits of rigging are unattached and I need to know what goes where, but don't have a plan.

Any advice would be appreciated

Hi Annette,

East Riding archives had a project to digitise many of the drawings of the Cook, Welton and Gemmell shipyard in Beverley where Kingston Peridot was built. They have a website called Trawling through time which gives a lot of information about the project and there is a link to it here Trawling through time

Kingston Peridot is one of the examples they show on the website and there is a link to the drawing here Kingston Peridot. I don't know if there is enough information for you on that drawing but there may be others or drawings of other similar vessels built around that time you could have a look at. You might need to contact or visit the archive centre at the Treasure House in Beverley to find out whats available or you may be able to search the records on line.

If anyone is thinking of building a model of a Hull (or Fleetwood) trawler I am sure there would be lots of interesting and useful information available on the Trawling through time website.

There was a 17 page article in 4 parts from Dec 97 onward on Old Smokey (Kingston Peridot) build Annette – have all the pages on paper . There is also a small scale plan in the article.

If you don't come right with the Archives I can scan the relevant pages and send via WeTransfer. PM me with the details you need – the whole article scanned will be very large……..

Thank you both for your replies! I checked out the East Riding Archives but there's no detail about the rigging. Maybe, redpmg, you could look to see if there are any details and/or pictures of the rigging in the Old Smokey articles that could keep a file not too big?
