      Hi gents

had boat on the pond sunday loverly day, but the turning circle leaves a lot to be desired. at the moment I have a servo horn with the rod on the far end, like wise the rudder is connected to the far end of tiller arm, same distance from pivit point.if I was to move the conection at the rudder end nearer the pivet point ,would this give move turn on the rudder.

I think it will any advice

It might, but once the rudder goes beyond around 30 degrees from amidships it will tend to just increase drag rather than improve the turning circle.

If you have a twin screw boat then fitting a mixer will improve things.

Wayne. At the risk of stating the obvious….fit a bigger rudder! make it deeper if you cant make it longer.

Once the ruidder post is in place on the hull there is not much you can do about turning performance really other than, as Colin says (if it is a twin screw boat ) use differential prop control.

You could extend the rudder a bit forward of the pivot point possibly?

Is your rudder directly behind the prop?

              Hello Wayne

All that I can add to the excellent advice is either fit a kortz nozzle or one of Bob Ables Becker style rudders.

Having read your post again……..Moving the rudder linkage closer to the pivot point, will increase the rudder movement

You could also fit a longer servo arm…..and get the same effect

A photo of your mechanism would be helpful

                Bob
