What a pity he built it on a couple of caravans…………..if he had used a narrow boat as a base he could have had great fun sailing the waterways.

Meanwhile I'm off to convince my chum who has a steel narrowboat that this is a good idea.

I just fancy cruising the bridgewater in my own liner.

What a fine ship that would make.

Some years ago the sea cadets had a narrow boat made to look like a nuclear submarine, for "recruitment" purposes, not a bad job If i remember correctly.

Your right Ashley it was used by the navy to tour the canals and recruit back in the 70's and named Warspite ,it was then given to Kingston Sea Cadet Unit by the M.O.D mored at Thameside outside the unit and was converted back to a conventional barge still named Warspite owing to the protests of anti nuclear protestesters at the time, used by the unit for many years and sold into private ownership due to new safety regulations not to long back.

Any one got any ideas where i can get a set of plans to build a canal barge , i am thinking of about a metre in length by about 10 or 12cm in width . I thought i would have a change from grey warships and have something diferent instead .

Raymond, I remember it well, as I was in the Steadfast unit for many years ! sadly, along with a n umber of youth organisations, a shadow of its former self.

Andy, Live dangerously..make your own plans! there are a trillion pictures out there and must be a few line drawings to get hold of. As long as all the bits on top are to the same scale i am not sure you go really wrong. I would personally size the craft to some figures that will sit on the stern, as this brings craft like this to life.

And you can use Square Line Guttering for the Hull.

There is an example in the Plans service which looks as if it is more of a working barge: http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/product/16976/nancy-bm1454

Also see the article on Amy Claire in this month's (May 2012) Model Boats which details the building of the Riverside Models kit. The article is also on this Website for subbscribers only.

andy, thx for the message but the plans i drew up are no longer with me.I took all the details i could find and drew it all on a pice of wall paper. Yes it was horse drawn which is why i am going to do a diorama with it. Iff you like I can post all the full size details for you and its a matter of drawing it up to a scale you want. Believe me, I hated technical drawing in school but this is an easy one to draw. Let me know and i will do some digging in the archives for anything I got iff you like.
