I’ve come up across a very frustrating yet interesting problem with the true dimensions for the Soviet Poti class (NATO), Project 204 (RUSSIAN) ASW Corvettes. My chosen scales to work in being 1/72 & 1/144.
My own reference material plus a very exhaustive web search has resulted in several different sets of dimensions quoted for this class ie;
1) LOA – 58.64m, B – 8.13m, D – 3.05m;
2) LOA – 59.40m, B – 7.90m, D – 2.00m;
3) LOA – 58.30m, B – 8.20m, D – 3.09m;
4) LOA – 60.00m, B – 8.50m, D – 3.00m.
These are the most popular dimensions, the most quoted is set 2), there were some others but they were quite outlandish and not beleivable. But as you can see, the max difference is 1700mm between the quoted (set 3. & set 4.) dimensions!!!!
I have a set of 1970 plans for Poti (quoting the set 4. dimensions) in 1/100 but the elevation and plan view are different lengths (15mm approx difference!!) and the propeller “tunnells” and stern shape omitted and incorrectly portrayed.
I found a thread from “Model Warships.com” forum referring to Poti with two very nice pics of a (still wet!!) fished model from a Russian modeller but with no scale nor model dimension quoted.
Can anyone help me with my problem? Slowly driving me nuts!!
Regards all
