I have just recieved the plans for the sea plane tender ( shown in the winter 2009 magazine) and it mentions using bass wood for the hull stringers etc. Now this might seem to be a stupid question but what is bass wood…….
Its an American term for lime wood (Tilia Tomentosa) or to be exact Tilia americana the wood is used in model building because it is soft / easily worked and has a lack of grain.
Another wood thats a good substitute to Bass/Lime wood is obeechi a very pale yellow/creamy white close grained hard wood that is very easy to work comparativly light and not to dificult to source
