There doesent seem to be much happening on here lately.

I want some tyres for Fenders,BUT I cant find any at Boot Fairs and I do not want to buy any as they seem expensive from Model Emporiums.
Could I make a mould then cast some ?.
      Ideas please, involving cheap materials.

      Thanks.

          Len.

What size tyres do you want to make???

making a plaster mould should not be tooooo difficult, but moulding some from anything other than resin may be expensive.

Toy fairs always have loads of tyres for sale.

There are some rubber compounds out there, used for making automotive components, including motor mounts…but I have a feeling that this will be expensive for relatively small tyres….

A slice of suitably sized rubber tube did it for my simple landing craft  …..

Try using a hotwire to cut polystyrene sheet into tyre sized circles then use a hot screwdriver tip to form the tread pattern……paint it with blackboard paint and you have a cheap tyre fender.

              Hello Len

Take `em off the kids toy cars?

Which reminds me……….About thirty years ago, I found hundreds of `em….dumped on a tip….all had excessive flash on…………They were lying about for years

              Sorry, Len….none left!………Bob

car boot sales are the place to get kids toys to rip them apart for the tyres, but there again we still dont know what size is required. A great firm called BTR mouldings does spare bits for all sorts of toy cars, Dinky etc etc, and has hundreds of tyre sizes available..in the smaller size that is.

                  HI Guys,

Thanks for your ideas, I normally build in or around 1/24th scale.
It seemed so quiet on here that I thought I would pose a question to get things moving, and the 3 wise men came to the rescue.
What about using Bathroom Mastic squeezed into a mould ?.

                  Ashley,
Have you read the articule on Ekranoplans in the Dec 1997 MMI ?.

                  Regards all,

                  Len.
