Chris, does your g/d`s friend want to sail this contraption, or will a model do?? There are two lcm models on the market, and of a reasonable size in i/32 scale (or theres always the  Airfix 1/72 version!)    Ashley

Revell do a very nice version of this type of landing craft and the kit comes with a set of plans, which whilst relating to the plastic kit could also be adapted for a scratch build.

                  Hi Chris

Try using the static model as a basis for drawing up your own plans for the LCM, its not that hard to do and it can be a lot of fun.

they do a plan of a lct mk5 it is in 1/72 scale but you could double the
size of the plan to the picture  shows 4 tanks on the deck  so this might
be a way round  your problem  hope this helps  mick

this will give you some idea of the finished model.

Speedline Models is producing a 1/16th LCM3.  Should be available in February.
The LCM3 did carry the Sherman but there was also a purpose built verison of the LCM3 called LCM6.  It was a LCM3 with 6ft added to the rear end of the loading bay just to increase the carrying capacity.

If you are looking for 1/35 scale kits I recommend the Revell one.  During my research for the project I bought the Trumpeter kit, the Revell kit and the Italieri kit. Non of them actually have the ramp raising method correct and all are very different in many area but Revell’s is very nice  and you get a Jeep and trailer to go with it!

If you want to scratch build one Chris, I can email you some drawings I made for the LCM3 and a an LCM6.
