My next planned 1/144 project is the G3 1921 battlecruiser. There are sketches in Oscar Parke’s ‘British Battleships’ and the few other sources I’ve found, but no hull cross-sections. Alex McFayden must have obtained (or drawn) detailed plans for his magnificant 1/96 G3. Where might one obtain such plans?

Bob, A good source of original material is of course the National Maritime museum.  An e-mail enquiry to them may produce the goods? I obtained some side and plan elevations for "HMS Agincourt" (the 1865 one) and they came in a tube fairly quickly.. and they were 8 feet long !!!! Considering what you get the price isnt too much really.  Ashley

Thank you Ashley. I’ve ordered plans from the NMM before (monitor HMS Terror), but the shipping charges to Canada have become very expensive. However, the NMM may be the only option.

            Hi Bob

I have been through my technical library and can only find a few references to the G3, as you know the G3 series was intended to be 4 ships but the design never got off the drawing board owing to aggreements on arms limitations in 1921.

The design went forward to produce the N3 class.

Hence there is little information available on the G3, Ashley is again spot on in pointing you toward the NMM as this might be the only source of detailed information.

            A strange looking battlecruiser.

            Good luck with the build.
