In Heraklion Crete last week I saw Plumgarth (sister of Avongarth- both Rea Tugs – Plumgarth built 1960). For her age she was pretty good. Now named Minotavros but the brass plate just below the bridge front clearly showed her identity. I took a few photos from fore, aft and alongside.

I can’t remember where I saw a detailed article about either of them. I am 74 and memory is not spectacular. It might have been a "Motorship" magazine of 1960 although I wouldn’t have thought it was as long ago as that, because I recognised her at a distance wrongly as "Avongarth".

There must have been a recent model made.

Does any-one have any knowledge please as I would like to see a plan.

Hi This model build in the 70s was originally build from plans for Plumgarth, the plans and documentation obtained at the time got lost over the years, so as I have refurbished her I renamed her although I think the livery is still Rea’s

At one time I think plans for Plumgarth were published in Model Boats, but recent attempts to get info were not very successful.

        Cheers Tom

Many thanks Tom. And a lovely looking model too. I will keep digging. Next stop Southampton Reference Library. Cheers.

Plans in Model Boats around 1968.

My copy disappeared after years of moving house.

              Correction – November 1965!

Not a sudden flash of memory but a copy has just been sold on eBay.

A plan for the Plumgarth by R A Sweet was in the book ‘Model Ships and Boats’ published by Nexus Special Interest in 1995.

Thanks very much again Barry. I know where I can lay my hands on that MotorShip article – Southampton Reference library – where I can photcopy the page and then scale it up to the size I want. You have been very helpful.

                        Yours, John

                            Barry,

Thank you so much for the copy plans from the RA Sweet article. They have come out quite well on my printer.

I have also this morning blown up the MotorShip plans at Southampton Reference library to give me a l.o.a. of 30″.

I shall be building on an Eskgarth fibreglass hull from Kingston Mouldings. The length to beam ratio is not quite right but I am prepared to put up with that for the sake of saving expense. If I were to make the plug, then split female mould followed by the actual hull it would cost about 5 times as much as the bought-in hull! And my fibre-glass laying up is about 1/10 as good as Kingston. It’s a bit of a cheat but it will please me in the end.

                            Thanks again.

                            John

                                Hello Steve,

Sorry about your loss of QE2 plans.

I will try to use my ageing brains if you will tell me :-

                                (1) Are you going to make a model of QE2?

                                (2) Is it going to be a working model?

                                (3) What size is your model going to be?

I look forward to hearing from you. Are you still in Spain? This matters because of availabilty and postage.
