I have just started to build  a WWII Cruiser based on the Fiji or Colony Class.

I was inspired to attempt this model since I still have the full size plans as supplied by Glynn Guest in Model Boats April 2004.

Since I shall be putting my own touches to this model, I would like to build into the Main Armaments more detail and perhaps to have the actual turrets revolve(not electrically).

Is there anybody out there that knows of or could direct me to a drawing of any Gun Turret of 10" calibre or more

      Many thanks in anticipation. Bernard.

                Hi,

I have built the Glynn Guest plan of  the Colony Cruiser, see photos on my gallery site. What I did was cheat a bit and actually used the HMS Belfast cast turrets, provided by John Haynes via his website.  I use a very simple turret rotating mechanism on my boats, which is almost like wire in tube for aeroplanes. Basically the smaller tube is attached to the turret and it fits inside a slightly wider tube. Old servo arms are then attached to each gun inner tube and then a piece of piano wire is attached to each of the servo arms to join the guns as a pair. I then run a wire in tube along the inside of the hull attaching it to the rudder arm, so that when the ship turns, the gun rotates. It’s crude,  but it works.
