Can anyone advise me? I have inherited some model boats which my father built from scratch (I think from plans, but I can't really say for sure) and which I would like to sell as I don't have the space for them.

There is a small rowing boat, a sail barge and HMS Victory which all look in really great condition to my untrained eyes, and a Titanic which could do with some work on the pain on the hull and which is missing a couple of life boats.

There is also an enormous unfinished Titanic (about the length of a two seater sofa) which seems a shame to throw away if someone could have it and finish it.

Before I put them on eBay are there any better ways of selling them?

          Hi Debbie,

We don't support sales from non contributors on this Forum but I'm sure our members would be happy to give you some general advice if you are able to put up some photos of the models (you will need to crate an album or provide a link to an external photo site).

Generally speaking, amateur built model boats don't fetch very high prices at the moment unless they are of exceptional quality and E Bay is usually the best place to try and dispose of them as it is where most people will look,

An alternative would be to make contact with a model boat club if there is one in your locality (you have not said where you live) and see if they would be interested in helping you dispose of them. Nobody wants to see decent model thrown away if there is a good home they can go to. If you can tell us where you are I will see if there are any clubs local to you.

          Regards,

          Colin

            Hello Colin

The perennial problem crops up again

To get round the problem, could we not recommend that the seller simply awaits PM`s from prospective customers?

            Problem solved?

            Bob

Hi Colin, any advice would be gratefully received. I'm in Chertsey (Surrey) and the boats are currently at my cousin's house in Whiteparish in Wiltshire. I'll dig out some photos and put them up.

                    Hi Debbie,

All those models look very well made, they probably won't fetch a great deal but should sell. Is the smaller Titanic a plastic kit do you know?

There is a well established club not far from you Phoenix Model Boat Club, website: **LINK** and it may be worth contacting them direct to see if they can advise further.

One problem with selling model boats is that they are very difficult to pack safely and usually need to be handed over to the buyer.

Certainly worth putting on E Bay if Phoenix club are unable to help. One of our members may be a ble to suggest a club near Whiteparish.

                    Colin

I think it might be but not 100% sure. They will definitely have to be a 'buyer collects' sale as I wouldn't fancy trying to pack them for shipping.

                        Hi Debbie

This is a very nice collection and it would be a shame to split them up and even worse to submit them to the indignity of ebay as they wont realise their true value.

Colin is right in saying that a local club might be the best place to go.

I would take them off you like a shot but living near warrington it is just to far to travel.

                        Good luck

                        Paul

Ah I would be severely tempted by the Titanic hull, what a great size, if I didnt have one already (down the road, Molesey, Surrey)

Thanks. Phoenix came back to me and told me they weren't interested and that eBay was my best option. I'm going to try a couple of specialist auction houses for valuation and see where that gets me with the completed models. I'm not going to sell via this forum as I know it's against the rules, but I'm happy for people to contact me by message.
