Hi

Being a virgin with building model boats looking for help . My needs are that I was given a Calder Craft Miford Star as a present I need to understand what I need tin electrical needs for as follows

Motor Plans indicate Monoperm 6v N/S plus Huco coupling

Reciever , Rudder Servo & Lingage , Electronic speed controller , Drive Batteries pack plus , what radio controller od I need .

Appreciate if anyone is able to point me in the right directions as it seems muddy to myself at present when investigating on the internet.

There's a fully illustrated build log of this kit by the late and much missed Richard Densham (aka DickyD) on the Model Boat Mayhem Forum website here **LINK**

A new Monoperm is out of the question, as I don't think they've been made for a long time. I would suggest using a 12v battery with a Mabuchi 555 motor **LINK**

This wiring diagram would be the basis of your installation **LINK** but substituting the 555 for the motor shown. You could also save a few pounds by using an ACTion P79 speed controller. This is rated at 10A and is quite beefy enough to handle the motor.

The motor and the electronics, including batteries, charger and cabling are all from Component Shop.

You need only a simple 2-channel radio set (transmitter, receiver and one servo); these people stock several different types and can also supply the prop and coupling you need https://www.howesmodels.co.uk/subcat/Radio%20Sets

Any modern full range radio with enough channels will be fine. In this case, two or more for forward/reverse and steering. Avoid short range "park flyer" sets unless you only intend to sail on a small lake. For steering, a standard servo (some radios come with one as part of the package. An ESC to control the motor will be needed. The modern equivalent of a monoperm (almost a museum piece now) is a very standard 385, or, for more torque but slightly larger, a 545. When sorting through all the possible power requirements, a Viper 15 will probably be near the top of the list.

My rudder linkages usually consist of a bit of piano wire suitably bent to shape. The Milford Star was originally intended for SLA, but a similar sized NiMH pack would be a better bet being easier to look after.
