Hello Mel
For a kit build your model has gone together remarkably well and you are to be congratulated on the quality of your build.
I presume by imperfections you are referring to the lines showing through on the cabin roofs.
I wouldn't worry because, as in full size wooden boats, it reflects honest construction and gives the model character.
For sails I use cut down Egyptian cotton bed sheets with a mild starch to stiffen the material, for letters I make my own with an electronic cutting machine called a Silhouette but if you don't want to invest in a machine there are people on line who will cut vinyl to your specifications
Well done on a great build.
Paul
