        Hi,

        Can anyone tell me whether there's any advanhtage in fitting metal as opposed to plastic geared servos in my case? My boat is a small tug which has a single rudder measuring 45mm x 30mm and there's only room to fit a micro type.

            Too big, I'm afraid. The model is only 18" long, but it's more a question of depth.

            I was looking at the Turnigy TG9e and the Tower Pro SG90–both under £4.00 including P&P.

            I know metal gears are stronger, but what I want to know is are plastic gears strong enough for a scale model with a rudder this size? I've never gone this small with a boat before, which is why I need some advice.

              Hi john

              I just asked a friend of mine, who flies rc aeroplanes, and she assures me that even a micro servo, with plastic gears, whould be fine. Hope this helps.

                I don't think that the stripping of gears will be your problem as given the small amount of torque available with these units it is more likely that the servo motor will struggle to move the rudder or hold its position whilst going astern.
