      Hi All,

I have to seal balsa dowels that are to be fully immersed in water.

The dowels are 16mm in diameter and I need the end result to be 18mm

I have a weight restriction, which results in a density of 280 kg/m3 for the dowels, keeping the sealer at or below 750 kg/m3 should achieve this.

      Any suggestions?

Fresh or salt water and ambient temperature?

I would suggest a sprayed marine varnish applied in three or four coats to achieve the 1000microns that you require to meet the 18mm OD but you would need to check with the manufacturer for the volume solids content to find out what the DFT of each pass would be.

Hope this helps solve your problem.

              Paul
