I have a good friend who wants to build a typhoon class russain submarine but wants it as a surface model only not a diving boat but my own personal oopinion is that if you are going to build a submarine what not make it dive and hopefully re surface . So my fellow boaters i throw down the gauntlet to you !!!

hi andy build the sub as the kind that will dive with forward motion and down elevator and resurface when the motor stops but will stay on the surface without the down elevator that way its the best of both .regards sammyk

Andy. No reason not to build a dynamic diver. On the basis that you would have to seal the insides up against water ingress anyway, then putting slightly oversize diving planes on and a method of holding them at a certain angle is not so far removed.

I did it, cant be difficult! see my photos. The insides are sealed by a perspex cover and a greased felt gasket .Not my original idea, but modified from a free plan in THIS or THE OTHER magazine.

If you search you will find the thread that I had running whilst building.

Francisco. If you use the prespex hatch idea, no more difficult than any other boat.

If building something slightly more modern and all in matt black.. dead easy.

The Hull on mine is a simple three sided box, the top is one piece..an hours carving and sanding balsa will get you the top finished. An hour cutting and drilling the perspex top and setting the screws in their holes.

Finishing off..sanding sealer, greay household undercoat, Humbrol matt black on top.

Completed. No to very little detailing, a bit of a fiddle first time round at the pond to get the bllast right, but then it is plain sailing.
