      Midhurst Modellers Exhibition
      Sunday 8 February 2026, 10:00am – 4:00pm

The annual Modellers Exhibition at the Grange Leisure Centre in Midhurst is one of the biggest displays of models to be found in the South. From relatively small beginnings in 1983, it has grown steadily in size.

The main hall will be devoted to model railways, including numerous layouts, together with trade and society stands and demonstrations. Other halls will house a wide variety of further exhibits including cars and other vehicles, dolls houses, engines, helicopters, planes, Meccano, military models and boats of all shapes and sizes.

The thousands of models on show, together with a wide selection of trade stands, will provide something for everyone, young or old, serious modellers or casual viewers.

RMG members hoping to exhibit a Meccano Model should reserve space in advance by contacting Pete Wood [email protected]

Sounds like a good show Colin, I wish we still had one or two up this end of the country.  The only one left really now is Blackpool and that is nearly as far away for me.

It’s always been a regional show Richard and all the more popular. 40% boats, 40% trains and the rest all sorts of things so something for most people.

My younger Daughter recently bought a house 5 minute’s drive away so it is a no brainer for me although I have been covering the show for many years. A 45 minute drive for me.

Just got back from the show. Very well attended by both exhibitors and visitors and more boats than ever which is encouraging. Report should appear in the magazine in due course.

Look forward to it Colin, I like to see show reports, it means there are still active modellers out there!

                Hi All,

I’m not too sure if there are many actual modellers building these days If my club in Kent is an indicator, but there are lots of model boaters who enjoy buying a model and sailing it like social club 🙂 Model railways has always always had a good following with plenty of shows I imagine it’s easy to be a lone wolf modelling at home, our main model show in Kent and Sussex is the Southern Model Show at Headcorn Aerodrome 5th & 6th of September well supported by 30 + Model Boat clubs with a temporary pool for sailing 🙂

                Regards   Ray

Yes, Ray, things have changed. I have never bought a boat but have built a number of kits, mostly as review models for the magazine. I prefer what used to be termed scratchbuilding, but for me is now a combination of ‘scratchbuilding’ the hull and upperworks and then garnishing the model with a mixture of ‘scratch built’ and commercial fittings to finish the boat within a reasonable time span. (Old Man in a Hurry Syndrome!). There are no real competitions anymore so I only have to please myself. I like to build unique models and am happy to use commercial fittings if this speeds up the build. I still end up with a model nobody else has which suits me!

Fishing boat looks superb on the water Colin, sits just right.

I wish my models looked that good and I could take a picture like that one.
