      hi everyone

Sort of boat related, only cause I know some of you use them. How do you charge your SLA batteries I have a 6v one, but no charging lead.

      Cheers

Andy. Purchase an SLA battery charger from (for instance) Maplins, one of those simple plug in ones, 6 and 12v or get one off fleabay.

Safest, could use something else but the dedicated charger is best.

          You know it makes sense!

              cheers

Thanks guys, thought about Marlins, but could not find one to fit. The plug threw me, but the ones with croc clips will work. Fiver (ish) from component shop will do it.

There is something to be said for biting the bullet and buying a multi-purpose charger. Modellers are going to need the ability to charge many batteries at many different voltages.

I bought one of these several years ago, and wouldn't be without it now. You can get similar ones from all model shops and most places on the Web:

Bit the bullet yesterday and bought one from Howes.

Thought it best as I now have lead acid Niamh lipos etc, not sure about cables though. Will have to see, as the receiver pack I have had the small red connectors, deans I think.

It it's got the standard leads like an IMax B6, you should find that the basic lead is a Deans. But leads are easy enough to make up. Good price for that one…

                      Hi DG

Thought about making each lead separately, but was in my local model shop and they had a multi lead for seven pounds, so bought it and can now charge my multitude of different batteries.

                      Cheers Andy.

Just looked at the Howes link. Is it my failing eyesight or are those two different chargers pictured?

                          Hi Dave

Nothing wrong with your eyes. They are different. Mine is definitely the top one, maybe the otter is an older version?

Good charger though, easy to use.

When I think of all the battery chargers I have bought over the years…it does make sense to get something 1/2 decent that does several types. Hindisght/wonderful thing and all that.

I would get three chargers…I always need at least three batteries on a Sunday and sometimes they take a while to charge and if you leave it late/forget/do not plan ahead, you can simply run out of charging capacity.

This is one of the benefits of SLA`s mind.. I have more than a few models that do/can use SLA and I know I can just grab a few and off we go, as I always charge them up after a session and they hold their charge for months.
