12 volt and more than 12 amps does not tally with the youtube video where the motor was screaming at high revs.
I think the gearbox killed the motor by distorting
The capacitors had nothing to do with it .
Replace it with a 555 or something with a prop to suit the motor  but don’t use an RE540 on 12 even if it is geared..

            Hi all,

I have a different problem with my Graupner Multispeed 140 fitted with a 6v seed 280 motor. I am driving it with an MTroniks MicroViper 10 Marine speed controller. This howls and ‘sings’  loudly (maybe the motor is humming?), and is too loud for my 24″ canal boat. The speed controller works fine in both forward and reverse other than the noise it generates, presumably due to the swicthing frequency? I would like to add a diesel sound gereator to my model so the noise is a problem.

I have seen various boats at shows that all seem to glide along almost silently, how is this achieved? I prefer not to use a mechanical speed controller to save wasting battery power.

What speed controllers would anyone recommend for the MultiSpeed 140 gearbox for quiet running?

I have e-mailed Graupner and MTroniks. MTroniks have replied and said the speed controller does make a noise when in use.

            Thanks in advance,

            Graham

The subject comes up with regularity now: http://www.modelboats.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=30276  ( Last week)

The speed controllers use a different frequency.

Any compact one that can run at a frequency < 1kHZ

50Hz should do you. More of a quiet, low grumble at dead slow (a bit like me, really………)
                Suit yourself.
