      Hi,

I am 70 years old and 63 years ago my father built a wooden kit model of a British Torpedo Boat for me and my brothers. I have recently had a go at renovating it and installing radio control and it seems to be operational.

It's currently has an all grey superstructure and a black keel and I'd like to give it some more details – maybe numbers, letters and flags better colours for the weaponry etc.

      It's 1m long.

I am completely new to this type of model making so would appreciate any advice.

      Many thanks

Mike – I am into model boats but nothing painted Battleship Grey, but as you appear to have the use of a computer I suggest a session with Prof. Google and see what he comes up with. I had a search on Motor Torpedo Boat and the first image tht appeared had a a large 102 on the side of the hull. Is that what you are looking for? There is a company called BECC that can supply all types of decal.

            ptb1.jpgptb2.jpgHello Mike,

I think you have an Aerokits – Patrol Torpedo Boat the number on the original drawing is PT 301 on the bow and superstructure probably based on an American ELCO boat, I have the plan and will build one eventually

I think the torpedo's should be on the rear deck ??ptb3.jpg

            Regards Ray

Hi Mike, you might find this link helpful, it includes a picture of a similar model beautifully detailed and finished.

I think I messed up the link. If you type. refurbishment. Into this sites search box, it should be the top one of two results.

Hi David, Ray, Charles and Richard.

Many thanks for all your help. I have made some minor changes to my model based on your ideas. I'm afraid I was too new at this to attempt a wholescale repaint

Even so, I have had great fun.

I thought you might like to see it anyway.

                          Thanks again

Mike. The thing that would make the most difference, in my opinion, is adding crew men.

Good figures, and more than just a pair in the cabin, would bring it to life big time. Not sure what scale you have there but odds on that you will be able to get figures for it.

Adding colour is also a way of livening the greyness up. Small things like Red fire extinguishers, port/starboard markers…whatever…make it up, it all adds to the interest, even if it’s not strictly correct.

                              Hi Ashley,

Many thanks for your post – I'll have a look at getting some figures and additional equipment.

                              Thanks again.

                              Mike
