      hello everyone, some more of your help if you don't mind. I've just started to scratch build mv ballyloran which will be some1.4m in length & 268 mm beam,it is recommended to use a geared motor 12v. & a 42 mm 4 bladed prop, decaperm motors I belive are god but also very expensive, so I'm looking for an altrnative reasonably priced geared motor. Can you help?…

          With a prop of that size and number of blades I'd consider direct drive. It's a lot quieter! One of these motors on 12v will give you plenty of power at a budget price **LINK**

          If you really want a geared motor then the same supplier stocks the MFA geared 500 type, but the 6:1 ratio unit generally recommended for 12v may be a little on the slow side for a 42mm prop. BTW I have a friend who is selling two new Decaperms @ £100 for the pair, but they're the 6v version. I gather the new price is £148 each!

            Thanks for your reply,great link also. I only thought of a geared motor because I saw a page on the web about a previous build by Tankman and he used a geared decaperm.

            I think I will go with the direct drive solution . Many thanks.
