I know there a formula to work out how long a battery should be charged,, to be fully charged but I cannot remember it. Can some nice person who knows this formula tell what it is. I have a charger with an output of 120 ma.

      Many thanks Roy

From fully discharged you should charge the battery for the battery capacity/charging rate x 1.4. So if your battery pack is 2400mAH then the calculation is 2400/120 x 1.4 = 28 hours.
This applies to NiCAD and NiMHbatteries; LiPo packs need a special charger which monitors how much charge goes into each cell (aka a balanced charger). Some chargers will automatically monitor the battery and switch off the charge at the point where the temperature peaks (fully charged).
You should always read the instructions for the charger before using it for the first time – don't assume they are all the same!
