      Hey Guys,
Please tell me why my Msoniks 70 amp Super Marine ESC only whines at slow revs……it does it on all types of motors to different volume..the whine disappears at max revs!!

This has been discussed quite exhaustively on the Mayhem site recently. Have a look here: http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=17055.0

It is a bit annoying. Thankfully the ESC on my Titanic is silent at all speeds, but the noise made by the Viper on my HMS Manchester is strangely fitting, being suggestive of all those powerful gas turbines etc etc  Ashley

              fast revs

At high revs the red current waveform is near dc with a small ripple. At low revs, the violet current waveform is sawtooth at best and a succession of spikes at worst.
As in a speaker coil, audio freq. ac makes a motor winding whine but the d.c. does not.

Actually one of the new ESC which i have in my tug does it, its a Viper Ashley, that may be something thats common to those.
Anyway it does not seem to interfere with the running of the boat so i will leave it, come to think it lets me know that its working Take care Tony

                      Some whine more than others.

I can only suggest changing the type or make of ESC if its a problem.

I think the degree of whine is to do with the relative characteristics of the motor and of the controller. I have seen a more detailed explanation somewhere but can’t remember where! If you have a different motor that will do the job it might be worth swapping it over or simply running the other motor on the bench from the controller to see if the same thing happens.
