Any ideas on where to source turning Blocks/Wheels etc for making the sail control runs below decks on model yachts? I read that some 'turn there own on the lathe'. I døn't have a lathe -nor the skills to this.

I have bought scale-like blocks for line control above decks from CMB but was thinking of something simpler/cheaper for below decks.

      I don't have a meccano set either

Have a look at Technobots online, plenty of pulleys and other interesting stuff there.

          Cheers, Terry.

George. alwayshobbies.com has a couple of sets of nylon pulley wheels, very cheap. Just need to mount them on a screw or something, easy.

                Hello George

The specialists for me in yacht fittings are sailsetc.

Thank you Tim, did not see your reply until now. Had a quick glance at sailsetc. Looks like quality gear. Going back to study everything more carefully asap.

Cornwall M B are expecting some 20mm sheet turning blocks from ro-marin (Krick/Robbe). Designed for below-decks use, BUT they are not listed any more at Krick so not sure they will actually arrive at CMB.

I am sure I will find what I need at sailsetc. though….and probably much more! thanks again.

                  George.

Just to "round off" (sorry) the turning block issue…..CMB actually received the afore mentioned turning blocks and have sent them on to me. They are 20mm and made of aluminium and brass.

Krick 'did not have them listed' -as I mentioned earlier- because I used the wrong part number when searching! They came in Caldercraft-labeled packets 3 in each for just under £9/pkt.

I don't know if ALL below-decks running rigging actually needs to have long spring-tensioned runs fitted. Maybe this something which is only needed for the racing yachtties? I have seen some installations with ENCLOSED drums on winch servos and no tension system applied to the lines. Two of my 5 winches, one Krick/Robbe and one Graupner have enclosed drums. Don't know if that's good, bad or ugly. I expect I'll find out around Easter.

Thanks again to those who replied with info on possible sources.

                    George
